The Starfish Story by Loren Eisley inspired the name of this blog and the purpose behind many of the posts. I first heard this story when I became a Court Appointed Special Advocate for the juvenile court and I refer to it often when the job becomes overwhelming. It goes like this:
“One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed
a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, What are you doing? The youth replied, throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die. Son, the man said, don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference! After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said, I made a difference for that one.”

As a CASA, I work with a family who has had their child removed from their care and help in determining whether that child can come back home. Needless to say, it is very rewarding but more often than not it is incredibly difficult, both emotionally and mentally. Although I can’t share specific details of the work I do, I can share the things I learn from my experience. I started this blog to do just that. In order to keep my sanity, I will also use this blog to post the happenings of my life and about pretty things like fashion, interior design, and crafting. I am doing this blog for me, and hope it serves as a sort of therapy. I will not post everyday, or even every week, but I will post when I need to. I am not a perfect writer, and will try to keep my grammar in check, but I’m not making any promises. So peace out boy scouts and until my next post stay classy folks.
